The things I think about:

Women go to the bathroom in herds to get society used to this.  Then, on her wedding day, when a bride takes her maid of honor into the bathroom with her so that she doesn’t pee on her wedding dress, people won’t think it strange.  And after she gets married, a woman can’t simply stop taking her girls to the bathroom with her because otherwise people might get suspicious.

And it is generally a good place to gossip about men.
